If you are wanting a cultural experience that is truly one of a kind, then Japan is the place for you! In some areas of Japan, there is nearly non-stop snowfall meaning excellent coverage and your tracks being refreshed throughout the day. The Japanese Alps have fantastic conditions for off piste explorations with extremely deep powder, however, please bear in mind there are strict rules regarding leaving the ski area boundaries without a guide. Many of the resorts are in close proximity, meaning that you can explore multiple resorts during a single trip. In South Japan and near to Tokyo, there are fabulous tree-lined runs and fantastic lift systems in resorts such as Hakuba and Shiga Kogen. One part of Japanese culture that should not be missed, is to have one of their natural thermal baths- Osens. These are found throughout Japanese, sometimes even in your hotel, which will help with the perfect recovery for aching bodies after a long day on the powder filled mountains. Unique to Japan is its national cuisine, which is available in all the ski resorts, so after your morning skiing you should be having a hot bowl of ramen rather than the traditional western food. Then at the end of the day swap a vin chaud for a glass of the local sake, which is often served hot.
